Apple’s latest OS X – 10.9 Mavericks – will ab available for download for free from today.
It is faster and more efficient than 10.8 Mountain Lion and includes better support for multiple monitors and full screen apps including a new a addition of the password saving iCloud Keychain.
This is the first time that Apple has issued a major update like Mavericks for free — 10.8 Mountain Lion was $19.99 and 10.7 Lion was $29.99.
The even better news is that it will be widely available for everyone running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and above.
Other imorovements include:
- standalone Maps and iBooks apps
- better uniformity to match iOS 7
- improved notifications, finder tabs and tags
- longer battery life and
- an “AppNap” feature to save power.
