The coffee break with Tim Cook which started off at $5,000 a has gone to an anonymous bidder who paid $6100,000 for the privilege.
At one stage the bidding was so fast and furious that it was thought the one hour meeting would go for more than $1M but when half an hour to go before the end of the auction the highest bid was $605,000.
It had been the top bid for a number of days but the winning bidder came in at the last minute with another $5,000 to buy what must be the most expensive cup of coffee in the world.
When the auction was launched on the charitybuzz website it was thought that it might raise $50,000 – that was the “estimated value” price attached to the auction.
However it took just five hours to hit that mark and since then the bids have just kept on climbing. The winner and a guest get to share coffee with Mr Cook at Apple’s HQ in Cupertino, California, and interest in the auction has been intense.
The money raised is going to the Robert F Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
