When tickets for last year’s Apple Worldwide Developer’s Conference sold out in two hours last year people thought that was fast.
It certainly was fast but nothing compared with this year…tickets for this year’s event went on sale at 10AM Pacific yesterday and sold out…in under two minutes.
Back in 2010 the event was still a sell out but it took eight days to fill the venue…today it would appear that they could fill the venue time and time again, such is the popularity for the WWDC.
Interestingly the event sold out 95 per cent faster than tickets for Google’s own annual I/O developer conference, which is taking place May 15 – 17 this year…that took 49 minutes to sell out.
During a previous keynote, former CEO Steve Jobs said that there were over 5,000 attendees at the show. If these numbers are still true today it would mean that sales of the $1,599-a-head tickets would have brought in just under $8 million in less than two minutes.
WWDC 2013 also marks the first time that:
- Apple will be making the conference video available during the event itself, instead of after the event.
- This year also marks the first time Apple has given advance notice about when tickets would go on sale, which will certainly have helped the two minute sell out time.
