Ever heard of an iPhone 5 catching fire? The time has come. As I woke up this morning, put the kettle on…made the tea… Okay, I’m British but it doesn’t mean I drink tea, okay? I went over to my desk, woke my mac up, unplugged my phone to check my messages… and this is what I found!

I’m no stranger to iPhones catching fire, my brother experienced similar results with his ageing iPhone 3GS last year. Why is this still happening? I called Apple at 8:30 this morning, I’m awaiting a phone call from their engineers in around four hours time. I’ve been told to “isolate” my iPhone, and not to touch it until further notice.

With Apple’s service quality, I’m more than likely going to be offered a new handset, however is that enough? If I’d have stayed in bed longer, would I still have my house in one piece? A faulty battery, a dead pixel, minor faults such as those are excused, but this could be risking the safety of someone’s life. Will I feel safe with a new handset?

I’ll be updating you on the situation as it develops, including a video later today as I receive more information!
