Marketing manager Shibani Bhujle claims that Apple refused to replace her iPhone 4S which she says was destroyed when it overheated and began to melt.

She said the battery started oozing acid when the phone was switched off and sitting on her coffee table at her New York home.

Shibani said: “There was a very strong smell— like something was burning. I picked up my phone and it was very, very hot.

“It wouldn’t turn on. In the following minute. I couldn’t hold it because it was too hot to touch. I was panicking. I expected it to explode or something.”

She said she took it into an Apple store but claimed that the company refused to replace the handset and suggested she needed to pay $200 for her insurance to provide a new phone.
