When Apple shows off iOS 7 to the world shortly, we can expect a whole look new look and feel to the operating system, it is being claimed.
It seems that this is no mere cosmetic touch up but a fully-fledged redesign which will feature heavily on contrasting black and white colours.
Apple’s Senior Vice President of Industrial Design Sir Jony Ive has been spearheading the new look for iOS 7 which is said to be radically different to the current look of the company’s OS.
Apparently Ive has said that the current OS has failed to stand the test of time and he wants a “clean and seamless” new look to mirror that of Apple’s glass and aluminium hardware.
For example:
- the current notepad app is yellow,
- the maps app is silver
- the mail app is blue and white and
- the games center app is multi coloured.
The feeling is that so many different looks can be confusing or at least off putting for customers.
9to6Mac reports: “Ive has not simply picked areas of the software design to tweak. He has essentially made his mark on every corner of the operating system, according to descriptions from sources, all while mostly keeping the essence of what has made iOS so ubiquitous.”
The new OS will be unveiled at Apple’s WWDC next month but until then these are some of the rumored changes which we will find on iOS7:
- the shiny transparent time bar at the top of the lock screen will get a shine-free black look
- the old square grid to enter your pin code will feature round black buttons where users enter white text
- the iPad Calendar app will get flat white and black coloring while the Notification Center drop-down panel becomes a dark grey/black color with white text.
9to5Mac added: “Additionally, panorama-like wallpapers (images that pan as Home screens are swiped) are also present.
“This feature makes sense in light of Apple adding panorama photography capabilities to some iOS 6 devices last year. Panorama wallpapers have existed in Google’s Android OS for several years.”
It said that navigation and tab bars have been redesigned to remove gradient textures while “most of Apple’s apps” have been redesigned to fit the white, black, and flat theme of the new operating system.
Rumored new features are said to include:
- integration for Flickr and Vimeo,
- improved in-car support for Maps and Siri and
- an “ambitious update” for developer-focused features.
