Apple has increased its security for iCloud, iBooks and iTunes accounts in a bid to thwart increasingly persistent hackers.
The move will send a code to a user’s mobile phone whenever they wish to:
- access a service from a new computer or
- when they make a purchase.
This two-step process is designed to add an extra layer of security for users who opt in to the new service.
According to Apple’s support page, users who opt in to the service will be sent a code whenever they sign in to My Apple ID to manage your account, make an iTunes, App Store, or iBookstore purchase from a new device or get Apple ID-related support from Apple.
Two-factor authentication,or 2FA, requires a trusted mobile phone number, although users are given a back-up code in case they don’t have their phone or are not within network coverage.
