It is not every day you get a chance to look around Apple’s design lab where new products are put through their paces.
Much less are TV cameras allowed inside to film Sir Jonathan Ive, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Industrial Design, but that is exactly what has just happened.
Sir Jonathan showed off Apple’s state-of-the-art milling machinery, which is used to create product prototypes, to the BBC’s children’s programme Blue Peter.
As he did so he explained how the machine was busy whirring away creating a new product which would take ten hours to complete…a one off aluminium Blue Peter badge for presenter Barney Harwood.
In return Harwood gave Sir Jonathan a special gold edition Blue Peter badge – other recipients of this special badge include David Beckham, JK Rowling, Tom Daley, Damian Hirst and The Queen.
Ewan Vinnicombe, Acting Editor of Blue Peter, said: “Sir Jonathan Ive is an inspiration to children around the world and we were ecstatic to hear his comments and design advice to our viewers who will remember such feedback for a lifetime.”
